  • Learn new style-specific techniques.
  • Gain exposure to world-class working pro musicians.
  • Play alongside and get valuable critique from professional musicians in Ensemble Workshops.

July 17-20: Instruction and Band Workshops
July 21: Recording at Firehouse Recording Studios and Student Concert

July 24-27: Instruction and Band Workshops
July 28: Recording at Firehouse Recording Studios and Student Concert

Both programs will include the following:

Band Workshops

Students will be placed in bands based on audition results, level, and interests. They will work each day writing an original song that will be performed at the final concert on Friday night. Each band will record their song on Friday at the Firehouse Recording Studio and be given a CD at the end of program. Teachers of each instrument will mentor every band.

Ensemble Workshops (Drums, Guitar, Bass and Vocals)

Each day, students will have the opportunity to perform with local professionals in ensemble workshops. After their performance, the LA Music Academy faculty and classmates will critique each student.

Playing Techniques (Drums, Guitar, Bass and Vocals)

In the Playing Techniques class, students will study basic techniques related to their instrument. An LA Music Academy faculty member will teach each class. Topics will be taken directly from the LA Music Academy curriculum.

History of Rock, Blues, and Funk (Session I ONLY) and Jazz, Fusion, and Latin (Session II ONLY)

At the LA Music Academy, we believe that knowing the history of musical styles is essential. Therefore, we have created a styles history class. All students will attend this class together in our performance hall. This class will meet for one hour each day. Students will listen to a lecture and playing examples from the artists who shaped each style.

Private Lesson (Drums, Guitar, Bass and Vocals)

Each student will get one private lesson with an LA Music Academy faculty member. The lesson will be one half hour and will address the student's individual needs and questions.

Music Reading (Drums, Guitar, Bass and Vocals)

This class examines the concepts and methods of reading rhythm. Students will spend an hour each day analyzing and reading rhythmic examples.

Rock, Blues, and Funk Styles (Session I ONLY) and Jazz, Fusion, and Latin Styles (Drums, Guitar, Bass and Vocals)

Each day students will attend this one hour lecture class that will discuss specific elements of these styles.

Firehouse Recording Studios

Students will have the opportunity to record their original song at one of LA's finest recording facilities. The Firehouse Recording Studios boast a list of artists such as Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, En Vouge, and the Yellowjackets. A copy of the recording will be sent to each student after the program.

Summer Program Fees
  • $700 for one program; $1200 for both
  • $50 Late Registration Fee after May 17th

*Housing information will be available in early 2006. Dates and content are tentative and subject to further development.

We look forward to seeing you this summer!

After you have completed your classes in the full year program, you can elect to stay in school by enrolling in the graduate program at a substantially reduced tuition. Each student will receive a private lesson once a week. Because you are still an enrolled student, you will retain access to the practice labs, classrooms for rehearsals and clinics. This is a great way to stay in Los Angeles and gig around town to use your new skills. We can help you extend your visa if you are an international student. Contact us for information on tuition and enrollment or click Here to download application.

Once you have successfully completed the 40-week (full year) course in one department, you may enroll in a second program at a substantially reduced tuition rate. For instance, drummers can take the percussion program after completing their 40-week drum program. Students choose an alternate instrument for many reasons to diversify their playing ability. Contact us for information on tuition and enrollment.
